Vintage Gramophone aka Phonograph Groovy Tray

$32.00

The “Phonograph”, invented in 1877 by Thomas Edison. Alexander Graham Bell made improvements and in 1883 released the “Gramophone”, trademarked since 1887 & generic name since 1910s in England. Phonograph remained the proper terminology in the US through the 20s, but with popularity skyrocketing around WW1 the Victrola by the Victor Talking Machine Company became popular in homes then generically used to mean a “record player” (also in the terminology since the 20s). “Wax” used to be wax-coated cardboard.

Captured forever to be celebrated this groovy tray is perfect for the ultimate collector. The term Gramophone is why we have Grammys today with a taper arm Victor disc machine as the model. LONG LIVE MUSIC!
